Let’s Catch Up (Newsletter 2014 Issue #1)

Hey, how’s it going? We’re entering the second month of the new year, and what a year for Team MaccaX this is going to be!

We’ll be more consistent publishing this newsletter so that you never miss out on what’s happening with the team and its members. We’re growing in numbers (now 700 strong) and we want to make sure everyone feels part of this amazing global team.

The Latest Word from The Boss

In the first MaccaX Uncensored podcast for 2014, the Bossman and MG run down Chris’s prospective races, how he’s managing to train while holding down his first real job as chairman at Thanyapura, and something about a match race with some guy named Lance. They also answer questions submitted by team members. Give it a listen.

 Here’s a short message to you …

Members Racing in January — way to Embrace the Suck!

It’s difficult to train through the holidays, so we’d like to recognize these team members who Embraced the Suck and raced in January. Well done everyone!
Curtis Kloc and Lisa McCartney took on the first ever Disney Dopey challenge — a 5K, 10K, half-marathon, and then the Disney marathon on consecutive days. Amazingly strong legs to get through all that racing. To get up at 3AM each of those days was an even tougher feat!

Ian Graham is one of our MXPlus success stories, using the system and sessions to craft a custom training program for himself to do his first iron distance triathlon at Challenge Wanaka. It is a tough course and on that day only 6 of the 17 male pros finished. Ian placed 3rd in his age group with a time of 10 hours 34 minutes.

Mike Robinson and Clinton Millar both recorded new PB’s at the Ironman Auckland 70.3. Clinton ducked under the 5-hour mark with a 4:54, while Robo came dangerously close to breaking 4:30 with a 4:32. Both overcame challenges during the race, but that’s what makes crossing the finish line even sweeter!

Got a race coming up? Add it to our team race calendar on the site, or if it’s there already, just RSVP. Finished a race? Write a race report on the forum. We’d love to hear all about it.

Get Answers to Your Questions…

The team forum is a fantastic resource to grow and share knowledge. Whatever question you may have about training, racing, equipment, nutrition — ask, and you shall receive some great answers not just from our team experts but also your fellow teammates. We all try to help each other out, so if you’ve got the answer to someone else’s question, speak up.

Here are a few of last month’s top threads:

  • Gluten and Dairy Free Eating during Ironman: “…Shotz Gels and Cliff Blocks are fine for me and work well. However I’m keen to add/supplement this with different food during the race…”
  • Running Shoe Selection: “I have experienced calf injuries in the past but never really made the correlation to my shoes. Should I be making the switch to a neutral shoe?”
  • Bike Travel Bag: “Thanks everybody for the excellent advice – I now have some good options to choose from and also stay clear of.”
