Borges focuses on coaching age group athletes, especially those managing family, work, and travel. He has also worked with professional athletes such as Heather Jackson, Jozsef Major, Brooke Brown, and Bill Jones. He has been coaching full-time for the past 20 years, and to date has helped 131 athletes qualify for the Ironman World Championships in Kona. He is a frequent contributor to online triathlon sources like Ironman.com and Trifuel.com and has helped launch online training programs for Brett Sutton and Team TBB.
MaccaX has previously ventured into online coaching by offering MX Plus: 30 of Macca’s all-time favourite workouts in video format to its members. Borges says, “Where MaccaX is going, they listened to all the athletes who requested programs where they could apply those workouts to proper planning to prepare themselves for races.” Training programs designed by Borges will incorporate MX Plus sessions through the base, build, and peak periods.
Macca, a two-time Ironman world champion, is glad to welcome Borges to the coaching team. “Sergio and I share the same sentiment that good triathlon coaching is for everybody, from the beginners coming from zero fitness to the pros looking for that 1% edge,” he says. “With what we are rolling out, the next few years of this team are going to be a whole lot of fun, a whole lot of laughs, lots of stuff to learn and thousands of finish lines being crossed by our friends and team members.”
